Staff of Life

I've been wanting to try making our bread for a while now, but have always been intimidated (read: lazy) by the kneading, especially since one book I have recommends 20 minutes for 100% whole wheat bread! I was going to suck it up and try it anyway when I found out you can use your food processor to knead. With that, I present to you my very first loaf of homemade bread, Classic 100% Whole Wheat. I was quite happy that it wasn't just edible, but actually good. Now if I can just figure out how to cut even, straight slices, we'll be set.

It's even Owen approved.

It looks so pretty! I might have to put this on my to-do list. It will be a lot more enjoyable to bake with cooler days on the way. Which sweetener did you use?

I used honey. Maybe I'll try maple syrup if we ever get our gallon jug. :) I also ran across this no-knead sandwich bread recipe when I was trying to find the one I used online: http://tinyurl.com/5hzmp7 I still need to try the no-knead one you use, too! I don't think I have a Pyrex big enough, but I read that you can use the inside of a crock pot and cover with tin foil.

Oh cool, thanks for that link too. Yep, on the Mother Earth recipe, I've heard you can use just about anything with a cover...like a covered soup pot, etc. It would be kind of fun to experiment with different shapes.
