Elsie's Two Week Checkup

Elsie just had her two week checkup and everything is going well. She now weighs 7 lbs 10 oz, which is in the 27%tile, and her length jumped to 21 7/8 which is in the 94%tile, so she is tall and skinny.

She won't have another checkup until two months. She is still a very calm and mellow baby. She is getting more alert during the day but is still sleeping very well at night.

Grandma Johnson Visits

Grandma Johnson visited this weekend. Owen really enjoyed playing and Elsie enjoyed cuddling with her.

We're Home

The whole family is finally home. Elsie's second blood test remained negative so she was discharged this morning. Here a few more pictures to enjoy.

Better Elsie Update

Elsie is doing much better than a few days ago. They've taken her off of the oxygen monitor because she's doing better. They think that as she gets older that her vocal cords will strengthen and it won't be an issue.

Her second blood test came back negative so they think that the first test was contaminated somehow. She should be able come home Tuesday at noon if everything stays the same.

Elsie Update

Elsie won't be able to come home for at least a few more days. She is having trouble getting enough oxygen into her blood when she cries. She can only make short shallow breaths when crying, but its totally fine otherwise. The Dr. thinks that it may be that her voice box isn't fully developed yet and it will hopefully heal by itself. They are going to just monitor it and see how it progesses. There are some other possible reasons but since it's mild they haven't done a comprehensive check yet because they want to see if it improves on it's own first.

She also may have an infection which could keep her at the hospital 7-10 days for IV Antibiotics. The first blood test came back positive for E Coli so they did another test and we should find out tomorrow the results. If the second test is positive then she would need to stay for 7-10 days for additional Antibiotics.
