Happy Halloween!

This year we carved three pumpkins. Owen enjoyed helping by scooping out the insides.
Sarah, Owen and Elsie went to a Halloween party with the Holistic Moms Network. They had many different arts and crafts projects. Owen made a ghost, a spider with web, three bracelets and got a balloon reindeer. Elsie in full ladybug attire.Reading a monster book.
This was the first year Owen wanted to go trick or treating. Once we stopped at the first house he said, "Trick or Treating is fun," and then had a great time.
When we got back Owen needed to sort his candy by type. Kit Kats were the most common by far. Our Jack-O-Lanterns.

Pumpkin Muffins

We've been all about pumpkin muffins this week. Two batches and neither has lasted to the next day. Yum!
Here's the recipe (my mom's):

Pumpkin Muffins

Wet ingredients
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. pumpkin
1/4 c. melted butter

Dry ingredients
1 1/2 c. flour (we use whole wheat)
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. each salt, cinnamon & nutmeg
1/2 c. raisins

Mix wet ingredients with dry. The dough is pretty thick, but if it seems too dry, I've been known to add some more milk. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.

When we were down in Madison for the state golf meet, Sarah, Owen and Elsie went to the Madison Zoo with her friend Leigh and her daughters. Here Owen is stretching out to see how long his wing span is. He was the same as a Peregrine Falcon.

Zoo Boo!

We met our friends Alicia, Adam and Chaya at the Zoo Boo yesterday. A good time was had by all, especially Owen, who relatively quickly got over his reluctance to walk up to the candy stations. Funny how he was hungry every five minutes when he knew there were goodies in his bag...

I had a moment of panic when O. decided he wanted to be Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. two weeks ago, but between a pattern for a pumpkin and one for a cow hat, we got something figured out. I wish I'd known that it was going to be in the 70s yesterday; I wouldn't have stayed up after the costume was done to make matching pants!

Elsie's costume was inspired by her pig-tails. :) We thought she needed to be something with antennae. She still needs a costume for when she's out of the carrier, but now I have a couple weeks to get to that.
